Air medical transfer · What it is

An intensive care unit
that flies.

An air ambulance — also called a medical jet — is not just a fast aircraft: it’s an aircraft configured as an intensive care unit as the case requires, with a stretcher, oxygen and defibrillator as standard and the equipment the patient needs. An experienced paramedic trained in air patient transfer always travels on board.

We operate with our own fleet and maintenance center, which lets us activate a transfer quickly and sustain the aircraft’s standard. Our team can review your case with you and explain clearly what it involves.

Why fly with Patriot

A coordinated transfer,
not one more burden.

With a single call we arrange the transfer: a configured aircraft, a paramedic and the medical equipment the patient requires, flight permits and delivery to the destination hospital. And if you need it, we add the bed-to-bed ground transfer with an ambulance at origin and destination (additional service), so the family doesn’t have to coordinate anything separately.

As the direct operator — not an intermediary — you always speak with the people who operate the aircraft. That shortens response times, avoids third-party markups and gives you a single person responsible from start to finish.

How a transfer works.

01

Medical assessment

You share the patient’s condition and the origin and destination hospitals. With that information we define the aircraft, the medical equipment needed and the flight window.

02

Coordination and takeoff

We handle permits, slots and — if you request it — the ground ambulance at origin and destination. The onboard team receives the patient and the transfer is prepared.

03

Delivery to the destination hospital

The patient is monitored throughout the flight and handed over directly to the destination hospital’s medical team. If you booked the ground transfer, the ambulance takes them from the aircraft to the bed.

Transparent quote

What does an air ambulance quote include?

Each transfer is quoted individually. This is what always travels on board and what is added depending on the case:

Configured aircraft

A medical transfer jet (Learjet 31A/35A or Hawker 800) with a stretcher, oxygen and defibrillator as standard.

Paramedic on board

Every flight carries an experienced air ambulance paramedic who accompanies the patient.

ICU equipment as needed

We have the equipment to set up an airborne ICU — ventilator, vital signs monitor, infusion pumps — added according to the diagnosis.

Physician or specialist (additional)

When the case requires it — for example intubation or intensive care — additional medical staff is integrated. Quoted separately.

Bed-to-bed ground transfer (optional)

We coordinate the ground ambulance at origin and destination at the client’s request, at an additional cost. Not included by default.

Permits and coordination

Flight permits, slots, airport fees and coordination with the destination hospital.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about air ambulance

It’s an aircraft configured as an intensive care unit, with a stretcher, oxygen and defibrillator as standard and the equipment the case requires. An experienced paramedic always travels on board; additional medical staff is integrated depending on the diagnosis. It’s used when ground transfer would be too long or risky, when the patient needs a specialized hospital, or for repatriations from abroad.

Since we operate our own fleet based in Toluca, once payment is confirmed we can take off in approximately 2 hours, depending on aircraft availability, permits and the patient’s condition. The first step is always the assessment call.

Yes. Depending on the assigned aircraft and the medical equipment the patient requires, usually one to three family members can accompany them. That detail is confirmed during the transfer assessment.

Yes. We coordinate transfers to and from abroad, including permit management and, on request, the ground ambulance at both ends. The range depends on the assigned aircraft; on long routes, technical stops are planned without compromising patient care.

Mainly on the distance, the aircraft required, the medical equipment on board and the ground services. Each transfer is quoted individually. Tell us the case and we’ll give you a clear, tailored quote.

We operate Learjet 31A and 35A and Hawker 800 jets configured for medical transfer. The selection depends on the distance and the equipment the patient needs. You can see the full detail in our fleet.

It can be. The base service is the medicalized airport-to-airport flight with delivery to the destination hospital. If you request it, we coordinate the ground ambulance at origin and destination for a full bed-to-bed transfer; it’s an additional service at a separate cost.

Quick guide

Air medical transfer in Mexico: what to know before you book

Booking an air ambulance usually happens at the worst possible moment: with a loved one in a fragile state, in a hurry and without knowing the terrain. We’ve gathered here the information we’re asked about most, so you can decide with judgment and not only out of urgency.

When is an air ambulance transfer recommended?

A medicalized flight stops being a luxury and becomes the reasonable option when the distance by road would put the patient’s stability at risk. The most frequent scenarios are:

  • Interhospital transfer to a hospital with the specialty or equipment the patient needs.
  • Critical patients who require continuous intensive care, mechanical ventilation or constant monitoring during the journey.
  • Accidents or emergencies far from home, when the family wants to bring the patient back to their home city.
  • Medical repatriation from abroad, or from Mexico to another country.
  • Air medical evacuation from areas with difficult road access or excessive transfer times.

What a medicalized aircraft carries on board

An airborne ICU reproduces, in the cabin, the conditions of an intensive care unit. A paramedic always travels on board with a stretcher, oxygen and defibrillator; the rest of the equipment is configured according to the case:

  • A stretcher with a restraint system and access for medical maneuvers in flight.
  • A mechanical ventilator and supplemental oxygen with reserves calculated for the entire route.
  • A vital signs monitor, defibrillator and infusion pumps.
  • Medications and supplies defined by the medical team according to the diagnosis.
  • Additional medical staff (a physician or specialist) when the diagnosis requires it.

The assigned aircraft changes with the distance and the weight of the equipment: short trips usually need a light jet, while long routes call for an aircraft with greater range and cabin.

Nationwide coverage: to and from anywhere in Mexico

With our operations base at Toluca International Airport, we coordinate air patient transfers to and from the country’s main cities — Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Puebla, Querétaro, Cancún, Mérida, Tijuana, Hermosillo, Culiacán, Villahermosa or Los Cabos, among others — plus destinations with regional airports where ground transfer would be too long.

International transfers and medical repatriation

Transfers outside the country add a layer of management: overflight permits, customs, health requirements and coordination with the receiving hospital. We operate routes to the United States — Houston, San Antonio, Miami, San Diego, Phoenix — as well as transfers from Central America and the Caribbean. We coordinate arrival with any destination hospital you indicate, domestic or abroad. On long-distance routes, technical refueling stops are planned without interrupting patient care.

Cost: what it really depends on

There’s no single air ambulance rate. The price is built on the distance and flight hours, the aircraft required, the additional medical equipment that boards, the permits and airport fees and, if booked, the ground ambulance at origin and destination. That’s why each case is quoted individually; tell us the case and we’ll give you a clear, tailored quote.

Payment and billing

The transfer is booked and paid for directly with Patriot Aviation; we issue an invoice for the service. We can provide you with the transfer documentation in case your medical expenses policy contemplates a reimbursement, though managing the claim with the insurer is up to you.

What sets us apart as an operator

Patriot Aviation is not an intermediary that subcontracts the flight. We operate our own aircraft under Air Operator Certificate (AOC) PTT-2025, with our own maintenance center and more than twenty years of track record in executive aviation in Mexico. For you that means fewer links in the chain, shorter response times — once payment is confirmed we can take off in approximately 2 hours — and a single party responsible for the entire transfer.

If you’re evaluating a transfer — your own or a family member’s — we can review the case with you with no commitment and tell you clearly what it involves.
